Question: I have been seriously considering starting a business and expediting keeps popping up as a strong front running possibility. My main concern is a financial question... any help you can supply would be greatly appreciated. My Question is, what can a single operator of a VAN expect to take home yearly? (after taxes, expenses etc...) What could one expect to have in personal spendable earnings? Thanks, Scott
Answer: Hello Scott, the questions you ask are the most popular among those considering expediting as a career. Because of the nature of the business and all of the factors involved, which will determine the outcome, the answers to your questions are different for each individual. This is not a profession where there is a simple set standard but rather it comes down to applying your situation to a hypothetical formula.
What I can tell you is that the
opportunity is there to generate substantial revenue but what you end up with as a profit depends on the strategies and techniques you apply to maximize your revenue. I teach this in the full day Expediter Training class. You'll find all the details about the class at www.expeditertraining.com.
To give you an idea of what a single driver in a van could earn, it is reasonable to anticipate an annual average gross
income of $65,000 for an owner operator (that is based on 48 weeks in service running, 1600 paid miles a week at an average of 85 cents per mile). It is adequate to estimate 50% of your gross for expenses. Again these numbers will vary when you apply the real numbers for your situation.
