Hello, where to begin I read your story in the march issue of "movin' out". I found
your article very interesting and funny. your truck is very good looking. I am a three month veteran of over the road, 2.5 years ago in a team but had to be home for the daughter she didn't except me being away. now I drive concrete truck for 2.5 years and keep telling my wife as soon as the kids grow up we might do what your doing. None of my business but can you tell me about what does it cost and how much you make doing that. I would like to know the ins and outs goods and
bads of that kind of freight hauling. VERY CURIOUS SHAWN

Hi Boo Boo, Glad you
enjoyed the article thanks for the comment about our truck. If you decide to do this type of hauling keep in mind you do spend a lot of time sitting so make sure you accommodate your truck to make life more comfortable while your out there on the road. Our truck is a little unusual but then again we take our three dogs and plan to stay out quite a bit. That's the beauty of this type of trucking you can spec your truck to suite your way of operating but the golden rule is the bigger the cargo box and the more special equipment the more load opportunities you will have. Your costs will vary depending on how you operate, like do you DH home often, your unladen weight, your gvw (over 26,000 lbs or under), do you run an auxiliary generator while you sit and so on. On average your expenses can be 60% of the gross as an owner/operator if you include insurance, plates, fuel taxes, meals and lodging. The Business strategies section of the expressstrucking.com website can give an idea of income depending on unit size and single or team. This type of trucking is ideal for teams especially husband and wife. Don't over estimate your income expectations as this industry fluctuates too much, be conservative and understand you get what you put into it. It's not uncommon for a husband and wife team to make 100,000 a year being available at least 25 days a month, if other things in life don't get in the way. If you enjoy each others company, love to travel and can tolerate an on call emergency response lifestyle then you'll probably enjoy it. as far as income it will pay for itself with little to splurge. Best of luck to you and if you and your wife decide to travel the country together while you work a venture into this type of trucking may be a good idea but make sure you do a lot of homework first.
